"New Academy. Saint-Petersburg" exhibition catalogue
An important event for the Foundation was the publication of the "New Academy. Saint-Petersburg" exhibition catalogue. The New Academy founded in 1989 by Timur Novikov is one of the leading movements of Russian art of the late 20-th – early 21-th century.
The catalogue contains the articles, written by art historians and art critics: Arkady Ippolitov, Andrei Khlobystin, Ekaterina Andreeva, Alexander Borovsky. The articles present different points of view and give different judgments about the art of the New Academy. The catalogue also contains a detailed chorography by Ksenia Novikova, the director of the NAFA Museum.
Dedicating the catalogue to this original and controversial trend of the modern art the compilers tried to adhere to the principal of strict selection of works and authors. It includes the artworks of the following fourteen artists, who have got the titles of professors of the New Academy: Georgy Guryanov, Denis Egelsky, Viktor Kuznetsov, Irena Kuksenaite, Stanislav Makarov, Vladislav Mamyshev-Monroe, Oleg Maslov, Bella Matveeva, Andrei Medvedev, Timur Novikov, Egor Ostrov, Yulia Strausova, Olga Tobreluts and Andrei Khlobystin. Images for the catalogue were provided by forty private and museum collections.
The book contains more then 200 illustrations, including very difficult to show in the painted edition the technique of works of many of the New Academy artists. The brocade fabrics with the filigree medallions-applications by Timur Novikov, gum-pigment printing and kallitype print by Stanislav Makarov, the sculpture by Olga Tobreluts and the laser engraving by Irena Kuksenaite.
The authors of the catalogue design are Pavel Gershenzon and Konstantin Kuzminsky. The book was published in collaboration with "Art-Volkhonka" both in Russian and in English.
